Minimum rental period:
Minimum rental period is 3 days.
Minimum rental period 7 days for all one way southbound hires.
Minimum rental period 10 days for hires between 23 December and 10 January
Minimum rental period 10 days for hires between Auckland and Christchurch or Queenstown
from 09 October to 28 February
Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods.
One - Way Rentals: No additional one-way fees apply.
Bond/Excess/Insurance: All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a third party. The hirer is responsible for the first NZ$1,800 (“the excess”) of the cost of damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the ‘exclusions’. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs.
The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The excess will be refunded if Maui is successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the third party. Please note that third party claims can take months to resolve. The excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
Should the bond be paid by credit card, Maui will debit the amount from your card immediately.
Additional insurance options:
Excess Reduction Option: NZ$ 19 per day (Maximum NZ$ 570) to reduce the excess to NZ$ 220.
Premium Cover Option (PCO): Where PCO is taken out at a flat rate of NZ$40 per rental in addition to the Excess Reduction Option, the hirer will not to pay any any excess at all for any damage to the vehicle or property of a third party.
Age restrictions and drivers licence: Drivers must be 21 years of age or over and a national drivers licence is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international drivers licence is also required.
