How to Use Your New Zealand Travel Pass
Travel Reservations
You can purchase your Travelpass on an 'open dated' basis from your Travel Agent. Once you arrive in New Zealand or are ready you call our Travelpass Reservations Centre, activate your pass and make your reservations at your convenience. When activating you will be asked to provide a password. Each time you call to make a travel reservation you will be asked for your pass number and password.
If you wish to change your reservations at a later time, simply call our Travelpass Reservations Centre. We will change your bookings - subject, of course, to availability on the new service/s you require. There are no amendment fees.
Travelpass is an e-pass. No physical pass will be issued. Your pass number is essentially your personal account number with Travelpass. Should you wish to Travelpass can provide an info sheet with your pass number listed on it.
Deadlines for Travel Reservations, Amendments and Cancellations
For all passes: Coach travel at least 2 hours prior to departure
For 2-in-One and 3-in-One: Ferry travel at least 12 hours prior to departure
For 3-in-One: Rail travel at least 12 hours prior to departure
After booking and ticketing you can change routing, subject to availability with at least 48 hours notice. Once ticketed your booking is non-refundable and non-transferable to another person.
Travel Reporting Times (prior to departure)
Coach services: 15 minutes
Rail services: 30 minutes
Ferry services: 30 minutes
Tickets and Boarding
For all passes: Newmans/InterCity coach services - you must make a prior reservation, no show and go option on Travelpass. If no prior reservation has been made you will be refused travel. Once you have made your reservation simply present at the coach stop on time. Those pass holders who wish to will be provided with a travel reservation reference.
For 2-in-One and 3-in-One: InterIslander ferry services - you will be provided with a reservation reference when you make the reservation. Then simply provide this reference to the ferry terminal check in counter and recieve your boarding pass.
For 3-in-One: Train services - you will be provided with a reservation number when you make your reservation. Then simply provide this reference to the train terminal check in counter and recieve your boarding pass.
Summer Season - Book Early!
Our busy summer season is generally between early October and early
April. Services fill up fast, especially during public holidays so if
you are travelling during this time please make all your reservations as
far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment. We don't want you to
be disappointed or inconvenienced because your selected service is fully
booked, particularly if you are connecting with other services.
Reconfirmations
If you have pre-booked your travel sectors prior to arriving in New
Zealand, please call us on our tollfree number to reconfirm your travel.
We can then advise you of any last minute schedule changes.
Photo Identification
Coach drivers and check in staff are authorised to request photo
identification to verify that you are the pass holder. Please have photo
ID handy when you check in for services. This will help avoid delays and
inconvenience to yourself and other travellers. Thankyou!
Service and Assistance
If an unexpected problem arises during your travel arrangements with us
then, in your own best interests, please contact our Reservations Centre
on our toll-free number without delay (0800 33 99 66). Please note our
hours of operation. Only by doing this can we take steps to remedy the
situation and to help you. If you remain dissatisfied any complaint must
be made in writing to us within 30 days. Please include your Travelpass
booking reference - this will help us to respond to you quickly.
Travel Services
New Zealand Travelpass may be used on InterCity CoachLines, Newmans
Coach Lines, TranzScenicl, The InterIslander Ferry.
Smoking
Under the provisions of the Smoke Free Environments Act (1990), all
passenger services operated in New Zealand are designated smoke free.
Regular stops are made for passengers' comfort.
Bicycles/Large Objects
Most services carry bicycles, surfboards, skis etc. - limit 1 item per
person, subject to space availability which can only be confirmed by the
driver on the day.
Please observe the following:
$10.00 charge per coach/rail sector and reservations essential (some
trains cannot carry bicycles).
$12.00 charge on The InterIslander
